Being Patient & Forgiving

My entire life I have had to be patient…

Having patience is so hard for me sometimes. Hunting, fishing, learning an instrument, another language or simply going through school. If I have to be someplace soon and my child is taking his or her good old time putting their shoes on, I might run out of patience. If someone is taking forever to tell a two minute explanation on something, I might run out of patience. If someone takes the long way around the city to go back home and I’m hungry, I might run out of patience. If you are the one trying to explain how to do a job you believe is simple, but the other person is just not catching on, you might run out of patience. If while you’re explaining something and the person isn’t listening, you might run out of patience because you have to repeat yourself several times. If I order something and it takes forever to come because of being on back order, I might run out of patience. If I’m driving along and someone cuts in front of me or doesn’t use their blinker, I might run out of patience. These are just a few of the things that can put your world upside down because we can’t control our short comings. Well, I have had to learn to be patient with many things, even though sometimes I’m not the coolest about how I handle it. How about you?

First of all, when I realize what is happening, I pray about it and ask God to give me the wisdom, strength and compassion that I need to get past this situation. Second of all, with having surgery, I have had to be still for a very long time and allow others to do things for me. Not easy for a person that would rather just take care of it herself. Then thirdly, it takes time to learn new things, it takes time to kindle a friendship, it takes time to heal the heart. Many others have been in this situation and I have to be appreciative of everything the God has provided for me. How about you?

Every day we all (me included), need to try to get better with the ones that we love the most and also with strangers. I know that I get tired and don’t want to take the time to say hi or even smile at someone. A smile may be all they need to pick them up or to say hi and let them know that someone actually cares. Have you taken the time today to smile, say hi, help someone, or make a call to let someone know that you really do care? Try it, you may like it. It is rewarding to be the one to give, but when you have to be the one to receive, don’t rob someone of that blessing.

Please forgive me if I ever show no patience towards you. I really strive to never be that person, but I’m not perfect and will never claim to be. I want to always be patient with the ones I love and with total strangers as well. We never know what others are dealing with in that moment and should always reflect God’s love. Life is short, why worry about the things in life that you cannot control. Only fix the things that you do have control over.

Until next time my friend…. keep your head up and look for another adventure. Remember to share and subscribe here. Then follow on Facebook.

  2. This was so wonderfully written and couldn’t be more spot on in, dare I say, everyone’s life. I think every single person could take something from the wisdom you have shared here with us. Thankyou for being vulnerable and authentic in this blog. It resonated with my soul completely. Thankyou.

  3. Nice post, Evie. I find whenever I start to lose patience, it’s usually that I’m in a hurry or feeling rushed. I remind myself that sloooowing down was the #1 reason I wanted to retire…not to run past those roses so fast that I forget to smell them…Remembering to hit the brakes!
Hoping you continue to get well. Wish we were closer so I could visit!
